Understanding SWAT or WBICFor many years, automatic irrigation has been governed by clocks or timers. Since the late 1990’s a new way of thinking about how and when to irrigate has been emerging; driven by the severe drought conditions in the water starved states. This new emerging irrigation management technology previously dubbed Smart Irrigation Controllers or Weather-based Irrigation Timers removes the need to make regular scheduling adjustments. A SMART controller adjusts the watering schedule automatically as weather change information is supplied or captured from onsite instruments. Today, it is now known as Smart Water Application Technology (SMART), or Weather Based Irrigation Control (WBIC). Where only two companies offered this technology in the late 1990’s, there are now over thirteen manufacturers. The face of irrigation is changing almost daily. Water shortages are the new reality. Run-off water carrying pollutants into our streams, rivers, lakes and other water supply sources has been an ongoing problem. These new smart irrigation control systems have demonstrated through pilot projects that they have the capability to save water, allow us to apply it wisely and all while helping to reduce run-off. A win-win scenario only if and when the new technology is applied properly. So far the manufacturers have been responsible for the results garnered to date. It will be a different story when the end users become responsible for the selection, installation, site assessment, base scheduling and routine maintenance of these new smart systems. This non-biased training is for managers, specifiers, designers, and contractors. Most qualified systems are presented, product selection criteria reviewed to ensure the system will meet program or regional requirements. Installation techniques for each manufacturer’s product taught, site assessing techniques reviewed, base scheduling principles covered, and proper maintenance practices reviewed, to assure these systems will achieve the desired results required by the Water Districts, Public Agencies, Water Managers, and Water Conservation Managers. This 1 Day informative hands on information session including a sit down networking lunch, will ensure that you are current with this new technology. By actually being able to;
As a decision maker, you will be able to make a decision based on your districts specific water and run-off requirements. Specifiers, Landscape Architects, Irrigation Architects, Landscape Contractors and Irrigation Contractors will now be able to select, install and program these new controllers so that the desired results are achieved.
