How to Manage an Irrigation System

You’ve taken over a new site and find out that there is irrigation that the Property Manager is asking you to start up. You freeze, now what do I do, I don’t know the first thing about irrigation systems.

If you had taken just a little bit of time and taken this class you would know;

  • How to spot the irrigation system components, water source, backflow,   controller, valve boxes and sprinklers.
  • You would know the many steps involved with performing a professional   spring start up of an irrigation system – and how not to blow it out of the   ground when you turn the pump on.
  • Oh yea, the pump – we need to know what type we have, is it connected,   how to prime it and how to turn it on.
  • Master Valve?
  • Backflow preventer – who needs it?
  • Where is that controller or in some cases many controllers or central   control?
  • Creating schedules for different zones (stations) and the changing weather.
  • Adjusting rotors and impact sprinklers.
  • Quick assessment of state of system.
  • Making sense of sensors.
  • The proper way to winterize an irrigation system.
