School of Irrigation

Course Offerings Overview

These courses have been created from a contractor’s point of view to instruct participants new to the industry and experienced in irrigation how to be more proficient working and managing their business.

Classes are half day (8:00am – 12:00pm), or one day (8:00am to 4:30pm). The design class is two days in length. The half-day classes do not include lunch. The one-day classes include lunch. Classes are listed by module typically from easiest to hardest.

Learning is achieved through the use of power point slide presentations and/or hands on demonstration and practice. A minimum class size of 10 participants is required with a maximum of 20. Some courses are available in English and Spanish. New: Rain Day Onsite Training is available for companies that desire in-season training (se details below).

Further information will be provided upon registering for the classes. A 10% discount applies if all irrigation and/or all business classes are taken. Contact us for further information. Add 7% GST to all prices.

Custom In-House Training Program

It is so expensive to send staff off for training. So we have created a mobile training school that will come to you, saving you all that travel, meal and accommodation expense.

Customize your very own in-house training program to meet your specific needs. We can present the classes listed under the School of Irrigation, Other Classes, and our Business Classes. We can offer portions of each class for an over all background knowledge of irrigation and or business. If you do not see exactly what you are looking for, let us know so we can create it for you.

Rainy Day On-site Training

We all wish that we could take advantage of a rain day. The staff shows up and it’s to wet to send them out to work. Now you are faced with having to pay them for showing up. Why not take advantage and turn the day into a training day? With very short notice one of our trainers can be on-site putting your staff through any of the 4-hour educational modules listed above. Not only does this make a rain day loss a company gain, but also your staff will be that much better at their job when they can get back to work.

Testimonials:

"Mr. Haveruk, I would like to express my thanks for your very professional approach to our water reduction initiatives. This was the perfect first step for us toward reduction of water waste and associated costs. This process was a great education for my team and me. Initially we requested your services to help in our environmental initiatives, but through the process you also helped

  • Work toward legal compliance with your back flow prevention analysis
  • Improve our irrigation in sports turf including root depth analysis and hydro efficiency.
  • Improve our specialty irrigation for clay tennis courts that always plagued us.
  • Achieve a game plan for our garden irrigation, and lawn bowling sports surfaces.
  • Flag a serious potential irrigation main break by pointing out a rusted coupling.
  • Create a budget and priority list for immediate and long term planning.

I rarely take the time to write these letters, but when I receive this kind of service, I am happy to recommend the firm as this makes me look good too! "

"My name is Drew Brown and I had the pleasure of being in your irrigation technician class a couple weeks ago. I just wanted to let you know that getting to meet you was probably one of the most inspirational things that I have ever been able to experience in my career. I signed up for the school just to simply learn how to do irrigation and left with a new passion that I can't stop thinking about.

I am 22 years old and own a lawn maintenance and landscape design company in Nashville, Tennessee and have never really done much with irrigation except for repairing pipe that we have broken doing landscape install jobs. I came to school thinking that it was just going to be some boring teachers and not being prepared to take the knowledge into the field. In the past 2 weeks I have already completed 3 full designs and gotten the jobs scheduled. I showed the local irrigation supply store my designs and theories behind hydraulics and the people were stunned. They said that nobody around does that kind of thing and couldn't believe how intensive the designs were. It gave me a great feeling inside that I had something really going on and I needed to pursue it to the fullest extent. My customers are also amazed at how much knowledge I learned from the classes. The main thing that has inspired me was seeing how you have made a career out of using your mind to develope solid systems and business practices. I am now going to dedicate the future of my career to studying irrigation concepts and water conservation and also making a healthy profit as I go. I just wanted to take this time to say thanks for everything and you have truly inspired me to really do something with my company. It meant the world to me that you gave me your time and helped me really understand what this industry should be all about. Look for ward to talking with you and thank you so much for everything."

"I have worked with Lorne and employed his services to grow the irrigation business globally. Lorne was a keystone of this growth from his experiences, wealth of knowledge, irrigation industry care and fantastic training. I consider Lorne a colleague firstly as I respect his care for the limiting resource of water and the concern to educate the global market of conversation. He delivers great results, grows folks in the industry and I have the utmost respect for him as a trainer, business owner, friend and citizen of this globe. I look forward to future work projects with him and his business."

After taking DHWMS CID Prep Course Steve Macartney says:

I thought the certification course was good as a refresher for the test. I don't
study well on my own so this gave me a head start on studying. I like
an informal class and the games (hangman....). This made the material a
little better to understand and it kept us awake.

Thanks

"I recently took part in two seminars taught by Lorne Haveruk. The design class
was an excellent overview of irrigation design principles and was of benefit to both
new and experienced designers.

The estimating course, especially in conjunction with the estimating software really
helped to streamline the estimating process and prevent losing money when you quote using the WAG method."

"I spent last five days in the classroom with Lorne and it was a great experience."
- Steve Buchanan, Twin Oaks Landscaping

"Thanks again for putting on a great set of seminars. The material was very thorough and your presentation skills are excellent. Trust me after 17 years in the corporate
world I've been to a lot of seminars."
- Chris Clarke

During March 25,26,and 27 I had the pleasure to attend your irrigation seminars at Landscape Ontario. Let me tell you that I was so pleased with your teaching skills as well as your vast experience and knowledge that was manifested at all given times. What suprised me especially was the way you managed to summarize the information on a particular topic. Even though these are mainly introductory seminars, you were able to go beyond the basics in a short period of time. I found the hands on portion in the greenhouse projects, wonderfully relevant and complemented the teachings in class. Honestly, I was never bored or disapointed and your ability to deal with very complex areas in every day language kept it interesting until the very end. Finally; I want to thank you for your time and efforts to improve the qualifications of the irrigation industry and I look forward to meeting you for future classes. "
